Dr. Phonevilay Sinavong “Lanoy”

Head of Project Management and Consolidation, Division of Planning and Cooperation, National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Lao PDR.

As an agricultural researcher Dr. Phonevilay is concerned with poverty reduction and improving the prospects of her countries most vulnerable people.

She has contributed to international development projects for organisations including the Japan International Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and been published in a variety of International journals. As an outgoing researcher with direct experience working on international development programs Dr. Sinavong’s strengths lie in her ability to deliver engaging training, capacity building and development exercises to local communities. Through these activities she is able to make a real impact to improving their livelihoods and rural development in Lao PDR. In 2015 Dr Sinavong was awarded her PhD in International Development from Nagoya University, Japan.

ACIAR Mentoring Partnership Empowers Women in Laos

Dr Chanthakhone Boualaphanh is the Deputy Director General of NAFRI and was selected to act as a mentor to Meryl Williams Fellow Dr Phonevilay Sinavong. Together they have taken the notion of teamwork next level and have been busy chalking up successes despite the ubiquitous roadblocks and diversions created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
